Reimagining the roots that connect us all. 
History by Design takes us on a journey through time, from the 1700’s to present day, where we explore the architecture of a simple three-room house, English and Dutch barns, and the communities that built them. Through the use of cutting-edge 3D animation and digital technology these rural structures are transformed into modern day living spaces for the homeowners of today.

There is a thread that weaves through the generations of these homes, a deep history, telling us a story and reimaging the roots that connect us all.
Each 30-minute episode takes the viewer on a tour of abandoned, yet once-majestic, historic homes and buildings. Kevin explains the original builders’ cultural motivations in the context of historic events, as well as the historic materials and construction methods. Each week, we create fully detailed, interior and exterior, 3D-scans of the featured building. 3D animation allows us to interact with the environment and offers a photo-realistic glimpse into the past, showing exactly how the homes would have looked when first built. With dynamic interaction, our team of artisans discuss how the historic structures will be reimagined, taking into account issues like modern lifestyles, building codes and energy efficiency. They explain which parts of the home should stay and which must go, and why. Once again 3D animation illustrates the reconstruction process in ways a typical DIY / home reno show cannot. Animation is the ‘secret sauce’
which allows History by Design to reposition structures on the property, add or remove whole additions, completely reconfigure rooms, and swap out furnishings and decorations, all within the confines of a single episode at a fraction of the cost of actual construction, and in a way that is clear and understandable to the audience.
